In April 2004, we adopted a policy for the expansion of opportunities for Social Enterprises through Public Procurement. The policy not only supports our social inclusion and regeneration objectives, it also makes sound sense in terms of protecting the long term achievements of best value.
Central government continues to encourage local authorities to promote and develop a mixed economy of supplies of goods and services. Councils therefore need to encourage a mixed range of suppliers to help stimulate a varied and competing market place.
Procurement in Sheffield City Council therefore aims to expand the policy of broadening opportunities to include sources of supply such as: small firms, ethnic minority businesses, social enterprises and voluntary and community organisations.
