The Lord Mayor’s Big Read is a collaboration between the Lord Mayor - Sioned-Mair Richards, Sheffield Libraries, city schools, and various other partners which celebrates and promotes the life-changing joy and power of reading.
Reading is the key that unlocks the door to life’s riches. It helps us feel better, discover more, and unleashes our individual creativity.
Between September 2022 and April 2023, The Lord Mayor is inviting individuals, families, schools, community groups, and businesses to share in the simple joy of words.
Attend an event
Attend an author event, take part in a workshop, join a book group, or make new friends alongside other families at a regular Storytime. There are lots of ways to share the joy of reading.

Start a Reading Group
A Book club or reading group is a group of people who meet together to talk about a book they have all read. Groups meet in homes, workplaces, pubs, and parks. In fact, Sheffield Libraries support over 250 groups with free reading group book sets.

Visit the Town Hall with your class
The Lord Mayor is inviting school teachers and ESOL tutors to bring their classes to the Town Hall. The Lord Mayor will chat with students about reading and share stories inside the Lord Mayor’s parlour.
