Cleaner: What We Do

In the past 4 years, we have invested an extra £2.5 million in our 'Cleaner Sheffield' programme. 84% of our streets now have either a 'good' or 'excellent' standard of cleanliness and our standards continue to improve.

  • In the past 12 months, we have:

  • Removed 3,800 square metres of graffiti

  • Provided graffiti removal kits to local communities to help with their graffiti clean ups

  • Launched ‘Gully Watch’, asking you to call us if a blocked gully near you is causing a problem

  • Worked on the 'Wicked Waste' project with 25 secondary schools, and on the ‘Crucial Crew’ project with South Yorkshire Police, to get the “litter message” over to 12,000 children

  • Prosecuted 45 people for littering, four people for fly tipping and two people for fly posting

  • Used our authority under the Cleaner Neighbourhoods Act (CNA) to ask 26 businesses where they send their waste, and we have asked contractors who were carrying waste to show us documents proving they were authorised to do this

  • Launched the Young Stewardship Schemes to get young people involved in their local environment
