The Ante Room

Near the top of the grand staircase is the entrance to the Ante Room. Over the door is carved a semi circular panel showing a figure, a serpent and doves, with a text "Be ye as wise as serpents and harmless as doves."

Inside are black and white photographs of all the past Lord Mayors of Sheffield, starting with the Duke of Norfolk in 1897, and there is a colour photograph in the centre of the present Lord Mayor. At the end of each Lord Mayors term of office, their black and white photograph will be added and the next Lord Mayor's photograph will be displayed in colour.
