Getting copy certificates
You can request a copy certificate of a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership that occurred in Sheffield by:
- Calling into the Register Office in person - contact Sheffield Register Office
- Downloading the appropriate form at the bottom of the page and sending your request and payment by post
Please note that:
- Anyone can apply for copy certificates and we do not require proof of identity provided that they can supply the relevant information
- A birth certificate is not proof of identity although some organisations do accept it as such
- If you are applying for a full civil partnership certificate you will need to give the address(es) of the partners at the time of the registration of their civil partnership
- If the address(es) is/are not given you will receive an extract civil partnership certificate, which will not show the addresses of the partners
Fees for copy certificates
- Standard Birth Certificate £7.00
- Short Birth Certificate £5.50
- Death Certificate £7.00
- Marriage Certificate £7.00
- Full Civil Partnership Certificate £7.00
- Extract Civil Partnership Certificate £7.00
Please make cheques payable to 'The Superintendent Registrar'
Please note that payment must be made at the time of the request either by cash (personal callers only) or by cheque. We regret that we are not able at present to accept credit or debit cards.
If you wish your certificate(s) to be posted to you please supply a stamped, addressed envelope.
If we cannot trace the record you are looking for we will return your fee.
