Citizenship Ceremonies

Sheffield Register Office carries out Citizenship Ceremonies for anyone who has been granted British Citizenship since 1st January 2004.

According to the Immigration and Asylum Act 2000 any Foreign National meeting the criteria to become a British Citizen must attend such a ceremony as the final stage of the process.

The ceremonies are held in the Town Hall every Tuesday afternoon for new citizens and their guests.

A Civic Dignitary, such as the Lord Mayor, the Lord Lieutenant of the County or the High Sheriff gives a welcoming speech and presents the Naturalisation Certificates to the new citizens.

New British Citizens also receive a welcome pack from the Home Office and Sheffield City Council. The ceremony is concluded with photographs and refreshments.
