The Register Office is situated in the Town Hall in the centre of Sheffield.
Services provided by the Register Office
All Births, stillbirths and deaths that occur in Sheffield are registered at Sheffield Register Office.
- Emergency Burial Service. Sheffield Register Office offers a service for the issuing of certificates for burial on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. To access this service, please telephone 0785 418 3921.
The Register Office undertakes the legal preliminaries to civil marriages and civil partnerships. It also registers and conducts civil marriage ceremonies and civil partnership ceremonies at the Register Office and at approved premises.
A list of approved premises licensed under The Marriages and Civil Partnership (Approved Premises) Regulations 2005 for civil marriages and formation of civil partnerships other than at the Register Office is available as a downloadabe document at the bottom of the page.
If you wish to certify premises as a place of worship or wish to apply for premises to be approved for marriage and civil partnership ceremonies please contact the Register Office.
Sheffield Register Office also holds the records of all births, deaths and marriages that have occurred in Sheffield since 1st July 1837 and civil partnership records since 5th December 2005 and can provide certificates of most of these records on request and for a fee.
The Register Office undertakes searches for family history enquiries
The Register Office conducts citizenship ceremonies for any new citizen wishing to apply for British Citizenship. It also provides a Nationality Checking Service.

The entrance for all ceremonies is via the main entrance on Pinstone Street.
The entrance for all appointments and all other enquiries is via the rear of the building on Norfolk Street opposite the Mercure St Paul's Hotel and Spa.
The office is open 9.00 am to 4.00 pm Monday to Friday.

Car Parking
The nearest car park is NCP Arundel Gate (next to the Crucible theatre).
There is also a car park at the John Lewis department store. The entrance to this car park is on Burgess Street.
Please allow plenty of time when arriving for appointments as these car parks are heavily used.
Public transport
The nearest bus stops are on Pinstone Street and Leopold Street and are very close to the Town Hall.
