Equality Impact Assessment
What is an Equality Impact Assessment?
An Equalities Impact Assessment (EIA) ensures that diversity and equality issues are considered as a core part of planning a project. This is a legal requirement. But it is not the only reason why you should think about the impact of your project on different groups of people. Your customers, users and other stakeholders will usually come from a diverse range of backgrounds. Thinking about the impact of your project on these different groups will help you shape your project so that it delivers a better outcome to meet these different needs. If you do this, your project is more likely to succeed. Also, improvements to a project that meet the needs of one group of people will almost certainly benefit a much wider group of people. For example improvements brought about because of legally required adaptations to support wheelchair users have also benefited parents with pushchairs and older people with mobility difficulties.
Which groups are we assessing impact on?
- Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) people
- Disabled people
- Women and Men
- Disabled people
- Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT) people
- People of different religions or beliefs
