Quality Plan

Quality Plan
It is important that the Project Manager determines the quality for the project and, makes plans for how to achieve it. It is important to remember that quality means fit for purpose, not necessarily 'the best'.

This is done by:

  • Setting the quality standards for all work on the project,
  • Establishing a change control procedure

Defining these will result in a Quality Plan.  The Quality Plan should also ensure that the following happens:

  • Links to corporate quality assurance procedures are made
  • Fit with Chartermark / Data Protection / Freedom of Information / IiP etc.
  • A means of measuring the standard of the projects outputs
  • Change Control and Version Control procedures established
  • Quality control techniques and procedures (such as using Quality review groups) to be employed are documented

In practice, much of the work here will be the same from project to project.  However without establishing the above in the Quality Plan, those working on the project could be unclear how, for example, documents should be signed off and filed, or who is responsible for authorising changes to the project plan.  It is therefore a critical part of project planning and control.

The next section introduces a means to track who, when and how we should communicate with for the sharing of project information, the Communications Plan.
