Second Draft/Outline Business Case
Having completed the first draft / strategic business case for the project, the next version is likely to be populated with far more information. Following on from the various workshops and discussions with stakeholders and colleagues, you are likely to have at least a rough idea of most aspects of the project such as:
- The costs involved
- Possible impacts
- Key risks
- Delivery method
In very large project, this stage of business case development may be a separate document known as the Outline Business Case
You should continue to develop and populate the Business Case with as much information as you can, however, you and others will probably need to make a lot of assumptions. As the project continues, certainty about it increases and the assumptions will change or become facts. This is why a Business Case is a dynamic, changing document. Even where assumptions are later proved to be wrong, they nevertheless have a valuable role in developing everyone's understanding about the project.
In the next section you take the Outline Business Case and a lot of the other work done so far and Assemble the Project Initiation Document.
