Black History Month

Black History Month (BHM) is held every October In Britain. The aims are to:
 
  • Promote knowledge, recognise and celebrate Black History and experience
 
  • Disseminate information on positive Black contributions to British Society
 
  • Heighten the confidence and awareness of Black people in their cultural heritage
 

Events to Celebrate Black History Month in Sheffield - 2008

  • Black History Month Recital Night, Friday 24th October, 7pm - 1am
  • Black History Month Awards Ceremony, Friday 7th November, 7pm - 2am

Rommi Smith is the Parliamentary Writer in Residence to the British Slave Trade: Abolition, Parliament and People Exhibition. Please see attached flyer for further information.

  • Sunday October 26th - SADACCA Presents Study Support Group 'Walk Good' live performance priced £2.00. Venue: SADACCA 6.30pm.
 
  • Monday October 27th - The Hub presents Interactive workshops, Front Room/Bed Room Exhibition. Venue: The Hub 12pm-4pm. Groups wanting to attend book on 2553538.
 
  • Monday October 27th - Friday 31st, The Hub presents Carnival Exhibition. Venue: The Hub 12-4pm.
 
  • Tuesday 28th October - The Hub Presents 'RESPECK' Exploring Civil Rights. Writers/drama workshop by nationally acclaimed Dub Poet. Venue: The Hub 11am-5pm. All young people 13yrs-19yrs welcome.
 
  • Wednesday 29th October - YASY presents Creative Workshop. Venue: YASY, 10A Carver Street 11am-4pm.
 
  • Thursday 30th October - Princess Black, Caribbean style melodrama by Devon Morgan. Venue: Montgomery Theatre £20.00 (adult) £15.00 (children/OAP). 7pm-10pm (suitable for young people 12 years +).
 
  • Friday 31st October - YASY presents 'All in Good Faith' performance. Venue: Library Theatre £5.00 (£3 cons) £10.00 (family ticket). 7.30pm, to book tel: 2755309 (suitable for young people and adults).
