Functions and Policies
As a Local Authority we have legal duties under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. One of these duties requires the Council to test all its functions and policies for their relevance to race equality at least once every three years.
In 2002 Sheffield City Council listed all its policies and functions. This list has now been refreshed. Building on our last Race Equality Scheme we have now tested our policies and functions for relevance to gender, disability and sexual orientation as well as race. The completed lists can be downloaded at the bottom of this page. As the prioritisation exercise was undertaken in early 2005 the lists relate to the then 5 Council Directorates: Chief Executive's Directorate; Development, Environment & Leisure Directorate; Education Directorate; Neighbourhood's Directorate and Social Services Directorate. Since August 2005 there have been only 4 Council directorates: Chief Executive's Directorate; Development, Environment & Leisure Directorate; Children & Young Peoples Directorate; and Neighbourhoods and Community Care Directorate.
The Council will review its lists of functions and policies each year to ensure that they are still relevant.
