Preparing Yourself

Sheffield City Council and the Emergency Services will provide up to date information to local radio stations. So don’t phone in, tune in.

Radio Sheffield – 88.6 FM
Hallam FM – 97.4 FM

Keep a list of essential contact numbers. The list should include not only numbers for the emergency services, but more local contacts including friends and relatives.

Make sure you know how to switch off your utilities (gas, electric, & water).

Emergency Provisions

Keep a set of Emergency provisions in your home, including:

  • Medication / prescriptions
  • Warm clothing and blankets
  • Canned food and bottled drink
  • A torch with spare batteries
  • Portable radio with batteries

During winter months it is advisable to keep similar provisions in your car.

Helping Others

It is easier to cope with an emergency if communities work together e.g. tenants associations.

Help vulnerable people in your area make their own preparations and be aware of their needs in an emergency. This may involve daily visits to your neighbours.
