How is Sheffield City Council performing?
The Audit Commission rated the council's overall performance as: good.
The Inspectors said:
"Sheffield City Council has been measured as good in the way that it serves its local people. We reached this rating by looking at: 1. how Sheffield City Council is run; and 2. how Sheffield City Council's main services perform.
1. How is Sheffield City Council run?
Sheffield City Council received a measurement of 4 out of 4 for the way it is run.The Council provides mixed quality services for local people, but it has considerable ability to improve them further and lead on the delivery of the ambitious renewal agenda it has set itself. Schools are getting better, educational service attainment has improved, social care has moved out of special measures. The Council has made significant progress in regenerating the city centre and attracting new jobs. Confidence in the Council is increasing. Many services have been reorganised to provide stronger customer focus and the partnerships have been used to help with service delivery. It has effective plans in place for future improvements.
2. How do Sheffield City Council's main services perform?
We have assessed core service performance in the service areas shown alongside. Each service is scored on a scale from 1 to 4, with 1 being the lowest and 4 being the highest. Education and social care are given more importance in reaching the overall service score than other areas."
