Jane was born in Sheffield on the Flower Estate and has lived in the city all her life.  She attended Shiregreen School and, on her marriage to Roger, they moved to Shiregreen where they still live.
 
After leaving school, Jane started work as an office junior at English Steel Castings Corporation, training as a secretary.  She left to raise her family, before returning to work in later years as a secretary on an education project.
 
Jane has been a Member of Sheffield City Council since 1992, representing the Nethershire Ward and, after the boundary changes in 2004, the Shiregreen and Brightside Ward.  During that time she has been involved in many areas of the City Council including Education, Social Services, Health, Housing, Planning and, until recently, was Vice-Chair of South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Authority.
 
She has always enjoyed her involvement with local community groups and been a Governor at various schools over the years, as well as a member of the local Sure Start Board and Sanctuary Housing.
 
Jane has been married to Roger for 40 years and family life is very important to them both. They have two sons, two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren, and family gatherings are always lively and happy occasions. 
 
Jane’s interests include caravanning, gardening, walking, reading and listening to music.

Roger was born in the Grimesthorpe area of Sheffield, but has lived most of his life in Shiregreen.
 
Roger trained as a steelwork’s chemist at the English Steel Corporation before becoming a melting shop manager.  He is currently working at the University of Sheffield.
 
In his younger days, Roger was a keen amateur footballer and referee, and also enjoyed playing basketball.
 
Roger’s hobbies include sport, gardening, caravanning and walking the dog.
