Website Improvements & Priorities
2006 - You said, we did...
Links are now meaningful.
Instead of looking like this: http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/cycling-and-walking/cycling.
They now look like this: "Find out more about road safety, cycle routes and cycling."
Images are quick to download
We've created a picture library that page writers can select from, stopping them from adding any over-sized ones.
Emails are now written in full
For example: "Email the area officer" is now "Email John Smith: john.smith@sheffield.gov.uk".
2007 - You said, we did...
Our customer satisfaction survey helps us understand what's important to you and what you find most frustrating or disappointing on the website.
The results of this ongoing survey are reviewed monthly and steer our priorities:
Provide better information and make it easier to read.
We've retrained our web page authors to be more concise and focus on answering queries, and less on what we do.
Make information easier to find.
So far we have removed vague section names like: 'In Your Area', 'Safe and Sound', and Out and About and replaced them with more intuitive names: 'Housing & Neighbourhoods', 'Care & Support' and 'Leisure & Tourism'
We have also introduced new sections based on the most in demand topics: "Roads & Transport", "Planning and Development" and "Libraries & Archives'
Redesigned the site
We redesigned the look of the site in February 2007. Its less complicated and helps you find things more easily, its more accessible and quicker. We've also added great pictures to promote Sheffield.
Introduced an excellent search engine
We launched a Google powered search engine in November 2007. The default search reviews general information, Council Meeting information (minutes etc) can be searched separately.
Do more online
We have created an online services section bringing together interactive services from across the website. We are developing better online forms too.
2008 Priorities - what do you think?
During 2008 we will continue to improve the ways in which you find our information and services.
We will continue to rename, relocate and restructure sections of the website:
- 'Environment'
- 'Care & Support'
- 'Housing & Neighbourhoods'
- 'Your City Council'
We will set-up home pages for each section of the website to better highlight the most requested information and help us tell you about new initiatives.
We will continue to improve the search engine.
We will start to introduce much more interactive services.
Tell us what you think
Feel free to tell us what you want improving on the site or comment on our work and standards by using:
- the survey;
- our feedback form;
- or email us webmanager@sheffield.gov.uk.
Thank you.
