Pay A Council Bill

 
We provide a safe and secure way for you to pay the following Council bills on-line:
 
  • Council Tax
  • Business Rates
  • Housing Rent
 
You can pay these by Debit Card (Switch, Solo, Delta and Visa Electron cards).
 
  • Parking fines and bus lane penalties (Penalty Charge Notices)
  • Housing Benefit Invoices
  • Other Sheffield City Council Invoices (SCC Invoices)
 
You can pay these by either Debit Card or Credit Card.
 
 

When are Payments shown as Paid?

If you pay for your Council Tax, Business Rates, Penalty Charge Notices, Housing Benefit Invoice, or other SCC Invoice, your payment will be credited to your account two days later.
 
Crediting your payment to your rent account may take a little longer.
 
 

Pay a One-off Bill or Fine

 
To pay a single payment.
 
 

Paying Us Regularly?

 
Register with us and you will only need to enter your details once, so you will be able to make your payments quicker.
 
 
To do this you will be asked to register your name, address and contact details with Alliance and Leicester, as well as the following:
 
  • to choose a password
 
  • a memorable security question/answer
 
  • your debit card
 
  • the reference number of the bill (for example Council Tax account number)
 
  • something to note down your customer reference number for each bill
 
Once registrated, you will get a Personal User Number. Log-in with this and your password to pay anytime.
 
The system answers most questions you may have, help you change your security details and remind you of your password if you forget it.
 
Note, you can make a partial payment of any invoices.
 
 
 

Other Ways to Pay

 

At your Bank or Building Society

Ask to set up either a:
  • Direct Debit
  • Standing Order
  • BACS transfer
 

At a Post Office

This is a free service unless your bill does not have a barcode on it.
 
The Post Office will charge a processing fee for bills without barcodes. Please contact the telephone number on the bill to get a barcoded bill.
 

By Telephone

You can pay over the phone, call (0114) 273 5249 and follow the instructions.
 

By Post

Post a cheque or postal order. Please write your account reference on the back of the cheque and allow at least three days for us to receive 2nd class post. Do not post cash.
 

In Person

At First Point in Howden House, 1 Union Street, Sheffield, S1 2SH (near the Peace Gardens). Please bring your account reference with you.
 
Put your cheque or postal order in the letterbox provided in First Point. Please write your account reference on the reverse of the cheque. Do not post cash.
