The Electoral Register
Here is information about the different types of Electoral Register and their uses. Please use the links below to find out more:
The Full Register
This is a public document which is used for voting purposes and by credit referencing agencies. Your name and address will be automatically included in the full register. Please contact us if you require a confirmation letter that you are on the register.
You are only permitted to view and make notes from the register, under supervision, at First Point, Town Hall, Surrey Street, Sheffield and First Point, Howden House, Union Street, Sheffield (see city centre buildings for directions). The register is not available online.
Please note: Names are listed in accordance with addresses in polling districts and not in alphabetical order and therefore can't be used for researching family trees.
The Edited Electoral Register
This document can be sold to anyone who requests it and can be used for any purpose (predominantly marketing). You can choose to opt out by indicating this on your registration form or you can contact us.
Updating the Electoral Register
The Electoral Register is updated at the beginning of each month with any new details received up to approximately the 10th day of the month before. This means you may have a maximum waiting period of 6 weeks before you appear on the register (if for example, your application is received on the 11th of the month).
Please see the downloadable document at the bottom of the page for the exact dates.
Historical Electoral Registers
We have registers dating back to 1841 which are also available to view. For more information see archives and local studies.
Downloadable Documents: Please note the document is in PDF format only. For more information please contact us on 0114 2704093 or email elections@sheffield.gov.uk.
