Standards Committee

Role of the Committee

Each local authority is required to draw up and adopt a Code of Conduct for Councillors. The Standards Committee oversees the Council's Code of Conduct. This Committee operates outside the main Council structures and the Chair and Deputy Chair are independent from the Council.

Important News – Changes to the Code of Conduct Complaints Procedure

From 8th May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that a Member may have breached the Code of Conduct is moving from the Standards Board for England to the Standards Committees of local authorities.

After 8th May 2008 if you want to complain about the conduct of a Member of the City Council or one our Parish or Town Councils you must submit your complaint to:

The Chair of the Standards Committee,
Sheffield City Council,
Town Hall
Pinstone Street,
Sheffield S1 2HH

The Committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a Member. It will not deal with complaints about things that are not covered by the Members’ Code of Conduct. If you make a complaint to the Committee it must be about why you think a Member has not followed the Code of Conduct. (The City Council’s Code of conduct is contained in part 5 of the Constitution).
