Protocol for the Scrutiny of Health in South Yorkshire

 
REPORT OF THE ASSISTANT CHIEF EXECUTIVE, LEGAL AND GOVERNANCE
MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
2ND NOVEMBER, 2005
 
 
 
 
 
 
            At its meeting held on 17th October, 2005, the Health and Community Care Scrutiny and Policy Development Board considered information reported by the Assistant Chief Executive, Legal and Governance with regard to the adoption of a Protocol for the carrying out of joint health scrutiny exercises by the South Yorkshire Local Authorities.
            In accordance with the arrangements approved by the City Council, the draft Protocol, together with a recommendation of the Health and Community Care Scrutiny and Policy Development Board thereon, acting in its statutory capacity for the Scrutiny of Health on behalf of the City Council, as set out below, is referred to the City Council for consideration:-
 
 
PROTOCOL FOR THE SCRUTINY OF HEALTH IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE
 
            The Assistant Chief Executive, Legal and Governance (a) referred to the decision taken by the former Care, Health and Protection Scrutiny Board at its meeting held on 17th January, 2005, approving a Protocol for the carrying out of joint health scrutiny exercises by the South Yorkshire Local Authorities and Derbyshire County Council and requesting that any substantial comments on the Protocol made by the Health Trusts in South Yorkshire be reported back to the Board and (b) reported that Derbyshire County Council had indicated its intention not to participate in the Protocol and that the Health Trusts in South Yorkshire, together with the South Yorkshire Ambulance Service, the South Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority and Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Councils had approved the Protocol without amendment.
 
            Following this process, the Protocol would need to be submitted to the City Council for approval and inclusion within the Constitution.
 
RESOLVED: That in the light of the information now reported, approval be given for the "Protocol for the Scrutiny of Health in South Yorkshire" to be submitted to the City Council for approval and subsequent inclusion within the Constitution of the City Council.
