Extract of Comments of the Burngreave New Deal for Communities
Meeting Of The City Council 4th June 2008
Comments of the Burngreave New Deal for Communities Working Party Meeting held on 21st May 2008
The Working Party made the following comments concerning the Internal Audit Report’s recommendations:
· In relation to the issues investigated and now reported within the Internal Audit Report, the management of Burngreave New Deal for Communities (BNDfC) fell below the expected level.
· There were insufficient management controls in relation to the letting of contracts or the recruitment process for the Deputy Chief Executive in this case. This is evidenced by, for example, the failure of the organisation’s Chief Executive to pursue references as part of the recruitment process.
· It is considered that improved training and support for Board members in relation to governance issues, so as to enable them to more effectively question the Executive, would reduce potential risk to the organisation.
· The tendering process for the letting of contracts was not sufficiently clear.
· Processes, which might have been expected in relation to the tendering of contracts, were either not in place or were not followed.
Members of the Working Party wished for it to be recorded that the comments relating to the management of the organisation were not a reflection on some of the positive work carried out by Burngreave New Deal for Communities on behalf of the local community.
