REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR

MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL

At its meeting on 22nd September 2004, the Cabinet received a report containing recommendations of the Executive Director, Education, in respect of Sixth Form School Admission Arrangements for 2005/06.
In accordance with the arrangements approved at the Council at its meeting on 5th April, 2000, the decision of the Cabinet, as set out below, is referred to the City Council for consideration:-
SIXTH FORM SCHOOL ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS 2005/06
The Executive Director, Education, submitted a report indicating that the Education Act 2002 imposed new duties on School Admission Authorities with regard to sixth form admissions and setting out details of the proposed policy that would ensure that the Local Education Authority complied with such duties and that admission arrangements were transparent and equally applied to promote full access to sixth form education. He stated that a consultation process had been carried out on the proposed sixth form admission and over-subscription criteria for Sheffield Community Schools and copies of the consultation paper and summary of responses were attached to the report as Appendices “A” and “B”, respectively. A copy of the Co-ordinated Scheme for the Admission Arrangements for Students to Sixth Forms, 2005/06 was also attached, as Appendix ”C”.
RESOLVED: That (a) approval be given to the proposed sixth form admission arrangements for the 2005/06 academic year, including the co-ordinated admission scheme;
(b) further and wider consultation in respect of the arrangements for admission to post-16 provision in 2006/07 be carried out during the Autumn term 2004, to include parents and pupils; and
(c) the Executive Director, Education, be authorised to take any further necessary action to implement the arrangements for 2005/06 in accordance with the details set out in the report now submitted.
(NOTE: 1. This matter is reserved for consideration by the Council and cannot, therefore, be called in for scrutiny; and
2. copies of the report are circulated to all Council Members with the Council Summons.)
