SONY Awards
SOAR, Sheffield Homes and the Area Panel joined together again this year to bring a small amount of pleasure to an otherwise cold and dark winter evening. Along with friends and family, 12 recipients of SONY (Southey Owlerton New Year) awards attended an event on Friday 25th Jan at Shirecliffe Community Centre to pick up their certificates and enjoy a warming pie and pea supper. Certificates were presented to volunteers for a range of work across the area including Robert Mawhood and Mike Knowles for their work as volunteers encouraging young people to get involved in positive activity through their support of the Cookson Park Cycle Speedway. Three special awards were presented for Outstanding Project, Outstanding Group Support and Outstanding Long-term Commitment. These went to Foxhill Shopping Squad who help people who would otherwise be isolated to get to and from the supermarket, David Pollard for his hard work reinstating Galsworthy TaRA and his involvement as a volunteer with Southey Forum and Norma Moore for her years of support and commitment to the Margetson TaRA.
