Area Panel News

 

Area Panel Public Meetings

The next public meeting of the Area Panel will be on Tuesday 27th May 2008 6.00 to 8.00 pm at Longley Community Centre and the agenda will include details of the Area Panel’s 2008/09 Area Plan and 2008/09 Working Neighbourhood Fund programme
 

Environment

 

Environment, Livability and Transport Theme Group Away Session

On 2nd June 12pm-4pm at Longley 4 Greens a half day event is running to reassess the theme group. SOAR will be facilitating and you can contact Susan Sissons, SOAR for more info susan@soaregen.org.uk
 

Three Parks Group

This community group has agreed to amalgamate with the ELT Theme Group (above)
 

Accessibility Strategy Prioritisation Process

ELT Theme Group (above) is developing a tool to score proposed or requested schemes against a simple set of questions to see how well they would contribute to achieving the aims of the Accessibility Strategy.  This will help prioritise schemes as they come forward and assist in identifying funding. Southey Owlerton In Bloom

Five posters that have been designed by local school children will be featuring on new bins in the area and Swamp Circus are working with local schools to educate young people about the issues surrounding litter. Area Panel will be funding hanging baskets at three neighbourhood centres and proposals are being developed for additional planting on roundabouts.
 

Parson Cross Bus Gate Review

The future of the bus gate on Southey Green Hill is to be considered at a future meeting of the West and North Planning and Highways Area Board and a report for this is being produced by John Wright, DEL john.wright@sheffield.gov.uk.
 

Halifax Road Works

A number of schemes have been put together for the section of Halifax Road from near house no 469 to the junction with Doe Royd Lane.  The works are resurfacing and an alteration to the junction with Chaucer Road.  The resurfacing works begin on Sunday 20th April 2008 and the junction alteration is programmed to follow in May 2008.
 

Sheffield Bus Forum

A member of the Area Panel will be invited to on to this new City level group, which will meet quarterly with bus providers with the aim of influencing the provision of bus service across the City.
 

New Community Skips

A proposal is being considered from Veolia to provide a number of free community skips each year for allocation by Area Panels.  This will supplement the Area Panel’s current Bring Out Your Rubbish day provision and aims to give a more balanced coverage of community skip provision across the City
 

Bring Out Your Rubbish Days

The Owlerton Southey Area Panel has been allocated three Bring Out Your Rubbish Days. These will be:
·      Tuesday 27th May – Colley Road (from Wordsworth Ave. to Turie Ave only), Margetson Road, Milnrow Crescent, Milnrow Drive, Milnrow Road, Turie Ave, Turie Crescent, Wordsworth Close, Wordsworth Avenue (to Turie Cres. only).
·      Wednesday 28th May - Everingham Road, Herries Ave. (from Herries Drive to Everingham Road only), Herries Drive, Crowder Road (from Longley Lane to Longley Cres. Only), Longley Crescent, Piper Road, St. Leonards Court.
·      Thursday 29th May - Cliffe House Road, Crest Road, Crestwood Court, Crestwood Gardens, Elm Lane (from Cliffe House Road to Swanbourne Road), Elmfield Avenue, Far View Road, Swanbourne Place, Swanbourne Road.
 
All relevant householders will receive an information leaflet a week before their allocated day.

Longley 4 Greens Section 30

The SNA are currently considering proposals for the use of a dispersal order at the 4 Greens as a way of dealing with current issues linked to young people and ASB.

Youth NAG / Positive Contribution Subgroup

Due to the cross-over in work and membership these two groups have combined under the banner of the Service District’s Positive Contribution Sub-Group. The next meeting is 12th June, 10am at Remington Community Center.  For more information contact aziz.daji@sheffield.gov.uk 2053806
 

Positive Activities Fund for 8-13 year olds

A brief update on key progress since the project launch on March 14:
 
Revenue grants scheme has been launched with grants available for up to £3K. Groups can contact vslt@sheffield.gov.uk or call 0114 2734113 for details of the scheme and to ask for an application form.
 
Next phase of capital grants for up to £10K will be launched in the next few weeks
 
Agreed funding for some selected projects that are currently providing positive activities for 8-13s but which are soon coming to an end.  Successful projects can be funded till March 31 2009.
 
First phase of activity delivery will start no later than the beginning of June and run through to the end of September.  Council is looking to generate a significant increase in activity levels over this period and in particular through the school summer holidays.
 
Main delivery phase will start in September/October and will be delivered through area-based commissioning to be selected by the end of June. All groups/organizations that have expressed an interest in the commissioning role will be invited to submit tenders for this work.  ZEST (nee NUCA) are leading on a consortium approach by the City’s major community organisations that includes SOAR
 
 Work is underway on options for consulting and engaging young people in the project to ensure that it fits the needs and aspirations of 8-13 year olds in the city

NRF Family Learning Project

The work resulting from this Area Panel NRF funded project delivered by SPELL and focused on digital photography is to be displayed as part of an exhibition at the Winter Gardens on Mon 2nd June to Sun 8th

This is to take place on 14th May in order to launch new information
 
Service improvement: access to opportunities
 

Cookson Park Family Fun Day

This is being organized for Wed 28th May from 11am – 4pm by Youth NAG / Service District Positive Contribution Sub-group.  The aim of the event is to promote the service district and partnership working to the community and positively engage children, young people and parents.
