Information and actions relating to the operation of the Owlerton / Southey Green Area Panel to the week ending 2nd November 2007.
 
Area Panel Meetings and Events
 
Next Area Panel / SOAR Public Meeting
Our next public meeting will be on Thursday 15th November 2007 7.00 – 9.00 pm at Thomas More Community Centre, Margetson Crescent, Parson Cross. This is the first of the new format joint meetings with the SOAR Board and Area Panel.  The focus of the meeting will be on issues in the Parson Cross neighbourhood.
 
Barratt Old College Site Development
Barratt are currently developing their design for the old College site at Monteney and Colley with an aim to submit a planning application in mid-Nov.  Pre-planning consultation will include information at the next Area Panel / SOAR Public Meeting on 15th November and Margetson Christmas Market 15th December.
 
Environment
 
North Sheffield Regeneration Team
Updated website with information and links on HMR, Neighbourhood Strategies and related physical projects via http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/planning-and-city-development/neighbourhood-regeneration/north-sheffield-regeneration
 
Streetscene Improvements
Herries Road scheme design is being finalised and there is an anticipated start date of February 2008. Longley Four Greens is on site at the moment.
 
Malthouses Demolition
4 properties (2 semi's) have been demolished, and a residents steering group is meeting regularly.
 
Fix My Street
A very useful website for the public to report issues concerning local environment and other issues which are then sent to relevant agencies http://www.fixmystreet.com/
 
Service Improvement: Access to Opportunities
 
Old Parson Cross Neighbourhood Management Pilot / Open House
The Monthly Local Implementation Group (LIG) has produced action plans for community priorities of Environment, Young People, Community Safety and Engagement.
The Area Action Team is coordinating the development and delivery of a pilot Open House project to enable the community to engage with local services. The first event will be at Margetson Christmas Market on Saturday 15th Dec.
 
 
Southey Owlerton Centres Delivery Plan and Chaucer Centre
Council Cabinet approved the delivery plan on 26th September.  News on the Learning Centre Big Lottery Fund bid decision is imminent.  Design work on Learning Centre is starting and market brief for the food store site is being developed.
Neighbourhood Issues
 
Accessibility Plan / Herries Crossing
Public consultation on the design of the new pedestrian crossing at Herries Road / Scraith Wood will be commencing soon.
 
Other Business
 
Young Peoples Information
Sheffield Information Link is developing a new database that aims to provide one central resource of information for children, young people, practitioners, parents and carers.  The Sheffield Information Directory (Ask Sid) will be launched in January 2008, for more information see http://www.sheffinfolink.org.uk/newsandevents/Asksid.htm
 
Margetson Christmas Market
The working group convened by Parson Cross Forum and supported by SOAR and the Area Panel is progressing planning for this event to take place on Saturday 15th December.  The Forum have chosen some Christmas lights, which will be provided by the Council's City Centre Management Team, and the Forum, TaRA, Homes and Area Panel are also contributing funding to the event.
 
NRF Project Review
With the end of NRF being confirmed by Government and to prepare for whatever opportunities arising out of the new Working Neighbourhoods Fund the Area Action Team are undertaking a focussed review of all the Area Panel's NRF funded projects during November.
 
And finally.......
In this month on 6th November 1942 the Church of England relaxed the rule that women must wear hats in church
