Owlerton/Southey Green Area Panel

Sheffield embarked on its Area Action initiative in 1995 and since then has developed a well-established infrastructure of Area Panels engaging all of the city's 84 Councillors in 12 corporate areas. One Panel covers Owlerton/Southey.

The Area Panel meetings are open to the public and are normally held at a local venue in the evening. Meetings are less formal than other meetings of the Council and public involvement is welcomed. There is an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions and submit petitions at these meetings (see the item on the agenda called 'Public Questions and Petitions').

The Council is keen to give Area Panels more powers, including some responsibility for making decisions. These are being introduced on a phased basis. Panels are also consulted on major Council policies and plans which will impact on their particular area.
