Officers from Street Force have been in direct contact with Cllr. Bagshaw -  ‘I refer to your comments to Andy Bennett at the recent North Area Panel meeting regarding damage to the verges on Low Road caused by Cala Homes plant. The contractor is obliged to make good any damage, presumably by means of Highway Authority enforcement action if necessary. However, as we are designing and supervising the Section 278 highway works which are to be carried out in connection with the scheme (during the summer). I have suggested to Cala that the works (including damage to kerbing as well as verges) could be carried out at this time. If they are unwilling to do this I shall inform the Highway Authority so they can take action as necessary’

Request for extension of the 30 mph speed restriction
Response from Andy Bennett, Urban Traffic Control:  I have spoken to colleagues in the Council’s Road Safety group and I am informed they are assessing the need to review the various speed restrictions in the vicinity of Oughtibridge. Any changes, would, of course be subject to the advice and agreement of the Police, with whom the Council work closely on issues of this nature.  There is a meeting with South Yorkshire Police in late June 2005 to discuss proposed changes to the speed limit on Langsett Road South on the approach to Oughtibridge

Yellow Box markings to keep junctions clear
The provision of yellow box markings at these two junctions has been considered but, on balance, officers would prefer to monitor the situation following implementation of the scheme to ascertain if one (or both) is necessary. The use of yellow box markings where there is no real need can lead to significant abuse and diminish their impact at other locations.’

Pot holes on Cedar Rd, Stocksbridge

Cllr Bagshaw requested a copy of the request for a school entrance scheme at High Green School, Wortley, and copies of any relevant correspondence that Road Safety Officers have received. Both pieces of information to be sent to Cllr. Bagshaw prior to the NAP meeting on the 15th June 2005
Officers have been requested to send copies of correspondence to Cllr. Bagshaw

Question from the Chair:
- Was Smithy Bridge at Bradfield to be repaired?
Response from Street Force:

The stone parapets on Smithy Bridge, Low Bradfield suffered extensive damage in a road traffic accident in April. Temporary fencing and traffic signals were installed on the bridge shortly after the incident.
Officers in the Bridge Management Section have been monitoring the bridge to determine if any long term damage to the structural integrity of the bridge has resulted from the impact. We are satisfied that no serious structural damage to the stone arch occurred.

Therefore we are proposing to rebuild the parapets as soon as possible using stone reclaimed after the accident.

Currently, negotiations are taking place with experienced stonemason contractors to ensure the quality of the repair on this locally important structure.
