April 2007- Several requests have been made to the developers provide an update to Handsworth Forum. 
 
July 2007- No presentation has been given to date, though developer has been contacted several times.
 
Problem with developer attending Handsworth Forum meetings on Mondays.

  • Allan Barrows, Tinsley Forum Manager, raised a question at the meeting about existing Housing Market Renewal (HMR) monies, to which the Chair promised he would deliver the statistics at the next Area Panel meeting, detailing how much money was left over for Tinsley.

  • Chris Goddard from the Tinsley Advice Centre emphasised that in light of the several hundred EU National new arrivals that were accessing the Centre every month, there was an urgent need for a full time translator and an extra member of staff, with the Centre being extremely under resourced at present.

Cllr Mazher Iqbal clarified that he had liased with MP Clive Betts and Councillor Mick Rooney about delivering food parcels to the Centre for distribution, and also mentioned that there was to be a meeting on the 15th June to discuss the situation.
 
Two meetings have now taken place to date with Area Coordinator (23/08/07).

  • In light of Christy Bannister and John Keyworth’s report referring to the proposed demolition of the Tinsley Cooling Towers, a question was raised by a member of the public as to what would become of the Peregrine Falcons nesting in the cooling towers.

John Keyworth replied that Powergen would have to take the Peregrine Falcons into consideration when demolishing the Towers, as the birds were a protected species.

Christy Bannister clarified that they were dealing with the issues of affordable housing for all.

  • A point was raised by a member of the public that children in Tinsley experience a high level of pollution and subsequent respiratory problems.

  • Gareth Davis from Activity Sheffield highlighted the need for more activities for older people in Tinsley, such as Health Walks and aerobics classes at the Tinsley Green Centre.

  • Councillor Mick Rooney requested that the Highways Officers conduct a survey of all the roads within the Panel area which have similar noise problems, and report back to the next meeting of the Area Panel.

  • Mature trees have been felled on Rotherham Road/ Retford Road and a member of the public wishes to know the reason for this.

  • Pupil numbers will be increasing in Darnall, given new housing developments on Staniforth Road and Eleanor St. Local School provision to be included as an Agenda Item for the Area Panel meeting to be held 06/09/07.

  • Traffic flow at the junction of Staniforth Road/ Handsworth Road/ Prince of Wales Road is a major problem.  Prince of Wales Road has not been widened to 2 lanes, due to presence of Railway Bridge.  This issue to be included as an Agenda Item for Area Panel meeting on 06/09/07.
