Extract of Minutes of Cabinet Proposals for Development at Waverley

11.
PROPOSALS FOR DEVELOPMENT AT WAVERLEY

             The Executive Director, Development, Environment and Leisure, submitted a report outlining proposals for development at Waverley, which were contained in a recently published Masterplan, together with a proposed response on behalf of the City Council in respect of such proposals.  He stated that UK Coal, who owned a large area of the site, had undertaken an extensive public consultation exercise on the Masterplan in both Rotherham and south east Sheffield.  The comments and views which had been expressed at meetings in Darnall and Handsworth were set out in the report and would be included in the response to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council within whose area the site was situated.

Councillor Gill Furniss, the Cabinet Member for Development, Environment and Leisure, drew attention to the consultation which had been undertaken through the Area Panels and to the need to minimise disruption in the area and Councillor Mick Rooney highlighted the issues which had been raised in the local area in relation to the proposed development.

RESOLVED: That this Cabinet (a) notes the importance of the proposed redevelopment at Waverley, to the regeneration of South Yorkshire;

(b) advises of the need to maximise this opportunity in the social, economic and environmental regeneration of the Sheffield/Rotherham conurbation;

(c) endorses the views on the Masterplan as set out in the report now submitted and gives authority for such views to be conveyed to UK Coal, its consultants, and to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council; and

(d) looks forward to continued discussion on proposals for this site and in particular, to the proposed environmental and transport impact assessments to be undertaken in the near future.
