Roadshow held 19th February, 2008, at Broomhill Methodist Church, Fulwood Road

1. Apologies For Absence From Members Of The Panel
Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Paul Scriven and Janice Sidebottom.
2. Proceedings Of The Roadshow
This was the third and final Area Panel Roadshows to be held during the 2007/08 Municipal Year, within the different neighbourhoods of the Panel’s area to give local residents the opportunity to discuss issues of local interest with Area Panel Link Officers, Panel Members and representatives of the Panel’s partners.
The event comprised a number of display boards and stands, staffed by the Link Officers and representatives of the Panel’s partners, and provided an opportunity for local residents to engage with them and discuss issues of interest within the Broomhill area.
The University of Sheffield Union of Students
Stella McHugh and Helen Giorgi displayed information, including a video film, of a number of projects and forthcoming events organised by the Students’ Union. These included the “Sshh Project”, a campaign to encourage students to be responsible neighbours and to reduce late night noise. Another event included the Summer Volunteering Event, to be held from 18th to 21st June, 2008, which gave students an opportunity to give something positive back to the City.
The video footage included a sporting event organised by students as part of a previous Volunteering Event.
Street Force
The following enquiries/comments were made during the event, together with details of action taken, where relevant:-
· Reference made to the flooding of the road and footway, making access very difficult for pedestrians and road users, mainly cyclists, on Glossop Road/Clarkehouse Road (at the rear of Lily's Pantry).
A. Drainage maintenance completed on 13th February, 2008.
· General enquiry regarding a number of blocked gulleys in the Park Lane area and requests made for inspection and cleaning.
A. Work scheduled for Sunday rotas due to parked cars.
· General enquiry and request for inspection and cleaning of gulleys on Beech Hill Road.
A. Work scheduled for the overnight shift, commencing in May.
· Reports of a damaged door on the litter bin on Spooner Road, just below the South Sea Public House.
A. Request forwarded to Street Force's Cleansing Manager.
· Request for the removal of builder's rubble and large bag of sand on Ashdale Road.
A. Request forwarded to Street Force's Cleansing Manager.
· Two large plants had been removed from the planter located outside Broomhill Methodist Church, at the end of Ashgate Road.
A. Request for the replacement of the plants forwarded to Street Force's Landscape Manager.
· Reports of persistent traffic problems on Fulwood Road, where vehicles were making illegal left turns into Manchester Road, causing danger for pedestrians.
A. Investigations carried out by a Street Force Inspector. Overgrown trees could be impeding the existing signage. Request for action forwarded to Street Force's Landscape Manager.
· Request for advice on Hallam University contractors causing damage to the general condition of roads and footways in the area.
A. Referred to the Development Control Office at Howden House.
Paul Pitts also received a lot of positive feedback from members of the public who appreciated the work Street Force were undertaking in the area.
South Yorkshire Police
The Broomhill Safer Neighbourhood Team displayed various information/literature on crime reduction issues and spoke to several members of the public and representatives of the partner agencies present at the event.
The Officers found the event very useful in terms of networking with other partner agencies.
Sheffield 50+
Jane Tanser displayed information/literature on the work and role of Sheffield 50+. She found the event very useful in terms of networking with representatives from other partner agencies and discussing various issues with members of the public.
Development Services (Transport Planning)
Dave Whitley displayed maps of the Broomhill Permit Parking Scheme, together with some general public transport maps and Sheffield walking and cycling maps. The walking maps proved very popular.
Trees and Woodlands
Dan Lewis displayed information on the regeneration of Broomhill, Central and Nether Edge’s urban forest, to which he received a positive response from members of the public.
Parks and Countryside
Andy Catling and Kate Clark displayed information on the redevelopment plans for Weston Park, and handed out a number of booklets providing general information on the Park, together with details of the redevelopment plans.
Libraries and Information Services
The officers from Broomhill Library displayed various leaflets promoting various activities at the Library, together with information on the Upstart Project and the National Year of Reading.
They received a number of comments, mainly positive, regarding the new library.
Broomhill Action Neighbourhood Group (BANG)
BANG ran a PowerPoint presentation, updating its campaign to save Broomhill’s Secret Garden and provided information on community consultation on the future of Broomhill’s District Centre.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service
John Lamming and Mark McCreesh displayed leaflets and provided information, including statistics relating to the Broomhill area, on fire prevention and fire safety issues.
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive
Tom Laver displayed general information on SYPTE’s services, including leaflets on the National Concession Pass, which was shortly to be introduced for the over 60s and people with mobility problems, and details regarding access to, and information on the Website. He received a number of positive comments regarding bus services in and around the Broomhill area. A member of the public raised an issue regarding car parking problems in the area, particularly around the hospitals. The SYPTE work very closely with the Hospital Trust and continued to look for ways to encourage NHS staff to consider alternative methods of transport to get to and from work, other than the car.
Friends of Victoria Park (Parker’s Lane)
Information was displayed on the plans for the site, including design images and details of the history of the site. Kate Clark, Parks and Countryside and Richard Jenkins and Jenny Owen (Friends Group) informed members of the public of the plans and when the works were likely to take place.
Sheffield General Cemetery Trust
The Trust displayed books, leaflets and a number of information boards, and its representatives talked to a number of members of the public. They also found the opportunity of talking to Council officers, other Panel partners and Councillors very useful.
Veolia
Annabel Johnston displayed and provided information on Veolia’s services, focusing on reducing, re-using and recycling. There was also information on composting, recycling centres and how to get rid of bulky items of waste and the garden waste collection.
