Area Co-ordinators Report

BROOMHILL, CENTRAL AND NETHER EDGE AREA PANEL
MEETING THURSDAY 11 MAY 2006
AREA CO-ORDINATORS REPORT

PURPOSE OF REPORT

To update Members on progress in the implementation of the Area Plan, identify key issues of importance to the Area and answer any outstanding questions

ISSUES

Local Action Plan (LAP)
The Plan, which incorporates a number of projects to be funded by the Panels allocation of Neighbourhood Renewal Funding (NRF), was sanctioned by Sheffield First through its Technical committee at the end of March.  A number of these projects will be entering into contract over this month.  Details of all the projects will be brought to the Panel for regular monitoring to ensure that they are delivering in line with the Panels wishes.

Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs)
Of the ten SNTs established, three are in this Panel Area.  Teams are made up of Police Officers and Community Support Officers together with a Safer Neighbourhood Officer, based with the team but employed by Sheffield City Council.

There are presently discussions on how local people become more involved in supporting this new way of policing through Neighbourhood Action Teams.  The Area Panel will be taking a key part in these discussions.

Sharrowvale Rd. Post Office
There continues to be some concern at the potential closure of this amenity.  The Panel will be looking carefully at this issue in the coming week and hopefully have an updated position for the Panel meeting

Montague St.
The successful opening, by the Lord Mayor, of the refurbished Montague St. play area, complete with climbing boulder, took place recently.

Highfields Adventure Playground
The refurbishment of the playground as part of the SHARROW PROJECT is due to commence at the beginning of June and last for approximately three weeks.

A bleeping nuisance
At a recent walkabout in Nether Edge it was pointed out by a local resident (who lives very near by) that the audible signal on the crossing at Nether Edge shops was very piecing.  The Panel arranged for engineers to look at (listen to) the problem and happily they have managed to turn down the volume.
