What we are doing
During the last 12 months, working in partnership we have:
- Developed Family Intervention Projects to tackle the problem of nuisance neighbours
- Fast tracked anti-social behaviour and nuisance cases. We have resolved 99% of cases reported to Sheffield Homes each year without the need for legal action
- Provided aftercare and support services to help move drug users into treatment and away from crime
- Set-up 10 safer neighbourhood areas where agencies and community organisations are working together to tackle low level crime and anti social behaviour
- Launched 101, the non-emergency number to report nuisance and anti-social behaviour. Over 75,000 calls have been received so far – equivalent to 1 in 6 of Sheffield residents using the service
- Fitted door locks, bolts, chains and window bolts to over 7,000 homes free of charge, to reduce the risk of a second burglary
- Carried out 26,500 home fire safety checks and installed 47,000 smoke detectors across South Yorkshire
- Introduced a new safety programme for primary and secondary pupils and parents to raise awareness about e-safety. There are e-safety officers in every primary and secondary school across the city to educate and advise about issues of Internet safety
- Increased Sheffield’s Neighbourhood Wardens to 66. They are the eyes and ears of the community to report problems and deal with low-level crime and anti-social behaviour
- Increased the number of Police Community Support Officers to 126. They work with Police Officers to tackle minor offences, anti-social behaviour and deter people from committing crime
