Winners of the Lord Mayor’s Awards Announced
Lord Mayor Councillor Jane Bird has announced the winners of the 2008 Britain in Bloom Lord Mayor’s Awards.
The Lord Mayor said "Everyone who has taken part in the competition should be incredibly proud of all their hard work. I have visited every entrant and it was a real joy to see all the wonderful gardens and floral displays."
The overall category winners for each category are:

Gold and overall winner of category - Whirlow Grange - Ecclesall Road South
Business - Public House/café/bar category:
Gold and overall winner of category - Kelham Island Tavern - City Centre
Retail display category:
Gold and overall winner of category - Cupola Gallery - Hillsborough
Community garden category:
Gold and overall winner of category - Bolsterstone Community Group – Bolsterstone
School Container category:
Silver gilt and overall winner of the category - Sacred Heart RC Primary - Hillsborough
School existing garden category:
Gold and overall winner of category - Meynell Primary School - Parson Cross
School new garden category:
Silver gilt and overall winner of the category - Bradfield Dungworth Primary School
Individual category:
(private garden or balcony visible from the street)
Gold and overall winner of category - Susan Methley - 68 Grange Road - Beighton
The local floral competition is part of the city’s entry to Britain in Bloom and is open to everyone across the whole of Sheffield.
The Lord Mayor presented all the winners with plaques and frames donated and designed by Insign, at a special ceremony in the Town Hall.
There are eight categories in the competition and everyone who entered will be awarded one of the following five classes, Gold, Silver Gilt, Silver, Bronze or merit within each category.
All entries were initially judged by a representative from the City Council’s Parks and Countryside team, Street Force or a horticultural specialist. The final round of judging was carried out by the Lord Mayor who visited all the entrants and made the final decision as to which medal they should receive.
