Pete Sandford
Key facts:
34 years old
White British
Equality and Diversity Learning and Development Officer
Based in the City Centre
Salary range: £23,175 - £24,708 (part time)
Pete says, “I develop and deliver training courses on equality and diversity. I’ve been working for the Council since 2005. My career history up to now has been very varied including storytelling and support for vulnerable groups including people with mental health needs.
“My job allows me to put my personal experiences to creative use in the training I deliver. That in turn benefits people’s workplaces and the people of Sheffield. I’ve felt welcomed here to challenge barriers and I’ve found a real openness to engage with the issues and promote inclusion.
“I use voice activated software and a tablet and pen for my Repetitive Strain Injury. To ease the symptoms of Seasonal Adjustive Disorder (SAD) I’ve got a portable light box. Flexible working is great for me, I have a good balance between work and my home life and I get to be a full time dad. It also means I can go to midday mass twice during my working week.
“This is a good place to work. There’s a willingness to use reasonable adjustments, there are good policies and the staff forums are good too.”
