Connect Sheffield
Example of pedestrian information panel which will replace existing maps, finger posts and signs
Connect Sheffield is a new project which will make it much easier to find your way into and around the city centre.
It will do this by:
- improved vehicle signage
- electronic messaging panels giving drivers information about congestion and available parking
- clear, joined up information about transport and visitor attractions
- easy to read on-street information for pedestrians
- all junctions on the Inner Relief Road will be numbered and marked with a strong landmark feature for ease of direction
- a new easy-to-follow map of the city centre will be produced. It will be widely available in print and also on the Internet
- clearer and more prominent travel information panels in bus interchanges
- the Connect maps and panels will be used by the Connect Sheffield Partnership which comprises most of the major distributors of information including the Council, the SYPTE, both Universities, Museums, Galleries, Theatres, the Tourist Office, Chambers of Trade and Commerce and Car Park operators

Most drivers cannot take in more than four names on a road sign
So Connect Sheffield has divided the city centre into four areas for the purpose of finding car parks easily - Don Riverside, Sheaf Valley, the Centre and West End. Within these four areas there will be signs to destinations like Quarters or attractions.
'Connect Sheffield will cover the city centre and the Sheffield University Campus, the Hallamshire Hospital Group and Weston Park Museum. This is a slightly larger area than is usually included on city centre maps and its distinctive shape will appear on all Connect maps'
