What are NVQ's
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’S) are a nationally defined system of occupational qualifications, which are based on the concept of competence in the workplace.
The candidate (person undertaking an NVQ) has to prove that she or he is able to perform tasks to specific standards consistently and has an understanding of applying principles of good practice to these tasks.
The standards which NVQ’s are based on are set by Industry Lead Bodies and clearly define what an individual should be able to do in their job. They then have the support of the employment sector, with full backing of Central Government and the Trade Unions.
About Us
Sheffield Care Sector Assessment Centre is approved by City and Guilds, offering Awards for organisations in Health and Social Care.
The Assessment Centre is based within Sheffield City Councils Neighbourhoods and Community Care Service Directorate.
Although we are Council based we are an Assessment Centre for organisations in the Independent, Private and Voluntary Sector (IPV), Sheffield Care Trust and Children’s and Young People's Directorate working with organisations across the Sheffield Social Care field.

We currently offer the following awards in care:

- Health & Social Care Level 3 (Adults)
- Health & Social Care Level 3 (Children’s)
- Health & Social Care Level 4 (Adults)
- Health & Social Care Level 4 (Children’s)
- Registered Managers Award (Adults)
- Managers in Residential Child Care Award
- A1 (Assessor Award)
- V1 (Internal Verifier Award)
Accessing the Award
To access the Health and Social Care qualifications we operate an application and approval system. We have a team of qualified peripatetic NVQ Assessors, working across the City in various Services, who may be able to assess your candidates. This is dependent on capacity.
We also work with organisations that provide their own N.V.Q. Assessors working with Internal Verifiers from the Assessment Centre
There may be funding available to assist you accessing the Awards. We can advise you on how to do this.
How to Access the Centre
All N.V.Q’s have to be completed via an approved Assessment Centre.
Sheffield Care Assessment Centre is an approved Centre, but there are others. If you would like to access another Centre we may be able to advise you.
