Community Care service performance

How well are we providing social care services for adults in Sheffield?

How good are we?

Our services are rated by the Commission for Social Care Inspection as being 3 stars, - this is the maximum number of stars that can be awarded in the country. We are seen as being Good at delivering outcomes, and Excellent in our capacity to improve services further.

How do we compare?

For the last full performance year 2006-7 we managed to improve 78% of the performance indicators by which we are judged. We are in the Top Quartile  of authorities, ranked 34th out of the 150 local authorities, compared across all the performance indicators. 75% of our indicators were rated either 'good' or 'very good', with the remainder 25% being rated 'acceptable'. We are amongst only 12 other local authorities who had all our indicators judged to be at least acceptable – the other 138 authorities all had one or more indicators that were seen to be below the acceptable level.

What do we need to improve?

The areas for development that the inspectors have highlighted, where we will concentrate our efforts to improve further are:

  • Continuing the modernisation of day services
  • ensuring the timeliness of completion of assessments
  • taking forward joint and integrated commissioning plans
  • partnership work to improve the quality of older people’s nursing home services
  • ensuring services for people with learning disabilities improve support for employment, and reach black and ethnic minority communities
  • further development of mental health early intervention services
  • improving carers awareness of support services
  • improving the in-house domiciliary services as planned.
