Partners For Inclusion

Partners for Inclusion (PFI) is a joint organisation formed between Inclusive Living Sheffield (ILS), Sheffield City Council, NHS Sheffield, the Voluntary Sector, the Trust Hospitals and disabled people in Sheffield.

The PDSI service works together with Partners For Inclusion (PFI) to obtain the views of people who use our services and in planning new service developments.

PFI is a partnership organisation which holds events at least annually. The core executive of PFI is composed of equal numbers of disabled people and officers from health and social services organisations.

PFI is working to improve services across Sheffield for everyone with a physical, sensory or cognitive impairment. We want to identify which services work well and what needs improving. By working in partnership with the local authority, health providers and the voluntary sector we can have a real influence on policy making, and improving services for all.

What has Partners for Inclusion been doing?

PFI has been involved with a number of consultations and events, including consultations on the Department of Health Green Paper on the future of adult social care in England. We have also done some partnership work with the National Service Framework (NSF) Group on Long-Term Neurological Conditions. PFI has held a consultation event to assess how NHS Sheffield and Sheffield City Council are progressing with their Disability Equality Schemes.

The Partnership aims to

  • Identify the issues that disabled people face in Sheffield when accessing services.
  • Promote a broader understanding of the social model of disability to service providers.
  • Promote better awareness of the barriers to living full and active lives faced by many disabled people with a wide range of conditions.
  • Give opportunity for dialogue with disabled people across a range of services, issues and organisations.
  • Influence improvements to services over time to promote social inclusion.
  • Assist with local interpretation of government guidance about improving services for disabled people.
