How We Will Work With You
Am I eligible for Services?
All Social Service Departments use guidance from the Department of Health, Fair Access to Care Services. Assessors will identify the risks to your independence.
How will I be assessed?
The aim of an assessment is to find out what your needs are and agree which services will provide support to help you live as independently as possible. There are four levels of assessment within our single assessment process that can be used. Which of these is used depends on your needs at any particular time. The needs of Carers can also be assessed.
How can I get help as a Carer?
If you are looking after a relative, friend or neighbour who cannot manage on his or her own due to illness, disability or frailty, then you are a carer. There are lots of kinds of help available, depending on your circumstances.
What are Direct Payments?
Direct Payments are a different way to get support from Community Care. Instead of Community Care arranging care and support for you, you can have a cash payment and make your own arrangements. Direct Payments let you decide how you want to meet your needs. It allows you to live more independently and have more choice and control over the way you live your life.
What is Self Directed Support?
Self Direceted Support is a system that puts you more in control. Having an indiovidual budget means knowing what money you are entitled to for your support and care. Individual budgets also mean you have control over the way it is spent.
Will I be charged for Services?
The Government assumes that Local Authorities will raise 9% of the cost of providing non – residential services by asking people who use the services to contribute towards the cost of them. Your income and savings will be assessed to see if you are able to contribute towards the cost your services.
What should I do if I suspect that abuse is happening to me or someone I know?
All adults should be able to live free from fear and harm and have their rights and choices respected. Some adults are less able to protect themselves than others, and some have difficulty making their wishes and feelings known. This may make them vulnerable to abuse. Please view our Adult Protection Procedures so that you can be aware of what constitutes abuse and how you can share your concerns.
How and why do you keep my personal Information?
Recording your information helps us remember what we have talked about and agreed with you, about your needs and care. Under the Data Protection Act 1998 all staff have a duty to protect your records and keep what you tell us safe.
What should I expect from PDSI Services?
PDSI have a set of Service Principles and Standards that all staff work to. Qualified Social Workers are registered with the General Social Care Council who have professional codes of practice. Occupational Therapists are registered with the British Association/College of Occupational Therapy.

The PDSI Service works together with Partners for Inclusion (PFI) in obtaining the views of people who use our services and in planning service developments.
