Shared Care for People with a Disability
What is shared care?
Shared care is a planned and regular care arrangement for people with a disability. The arrangement is jointly agreed between Social Services and you, and your family members or carer. Shared Care can be provided
- at a residential or nursing home
- by the Adult Family Placement Scheme
Social Services will carry out an assessment of your needs. Shared care is provided if it is identified in the assessment that you need shared care and are eligible to receive it.

Will I have to pay for shared care?
The person who carries out your assessment of needs will explain how Social Services work out how much you will have to contribute towards the cost of services you receive. There will be a separate financial assessment that also takes account of any expenditure you have that is directly related to your disability. This will determine how much you will have to pay.
