Benefits Advice Staying in Hospital

Will my benefits change if I go into hospital?

It is important if you are staying in hospital that your benefits are reassessed. Some benefits are reduced during a stay in hospital, usually after four weeks. If you were not claiming any form of benefit prior to entering hospital, you may now be entitled to claim.

What do I need to do if I am going into hospital?

If you are going into hospital you should immediately notify the Department for Work and Pensions and the Council office that deals with your claims for Housing and Council Tax Benefit.

Does this affect me when I come out of hospital?

It is also important that your benefits are reassessed when you come out of hospital. You may also be entitled to other benefits if you have become disabled as a result of your illness.

What do I need to do if I am leaving hospital?

If you are leaving hospital you should immediately notify the Department for Work and Pensions and the Council office that deals with your claims for Housing and Council Tax Benefit.
