Lead Professional
The government vision for the Lead Professional is to:
- Act as a single point of contact that children, young people and families can trust
- Ensure that children and families get appropriate interventions when needed, which are well planned, regularly reviewed and effectively delivered
- Reduce overlap and inconsistency from other practitioners.
There are no hard and fast rules about who should have a Lead Professional and there will be a degree of discretion locally and within individual agencies. It is intended, however, that there will be a key target group of children who will have a Lead Professional. This will include children who:
- Have multiple input from professionals already
- Have complex needs and a number of practitioners will need to be involved
- Have received an assessment suggesting that a coordinated response is required.
