Children With Disabilities Short Breaks Scheme
The Short Breaks Scheme is a service offered to families to provide additional support, friendship and care for children with disabilities.
This scheme brings together foster carers and families of children with disabilities to provide care for the child at set times, this could be:
- Overnight stays
- Weekend stays (usually every 2-4 weeks)
- Occasional longer stays
The scheme aims to provide:
- New friends for the child
- Extra social opportunities for the child
- Learning opportunities for the child
- A break for the parents and child
- Time for parents to spend with other children
We need more foster carers for this scheme, especially for overnight and weekend and holiday stays. We offer all foster carers ongoing support and training.
As a foster carer in the Children with Disabilities team you will have the opportunity to work with wonderful children and their families, making new friends along the way. Find out more about some of our Short Breaks Scheme carers.
