Carer for nearly 40 years Anne

Anne
A Foster Carer for 39 years, Anne tells us in her own words about her life as a foster carer...

How long have you been a foster carer – why did you go into fostering?

Thirty-nine years.  I always wanted to look after children.

What kind of fostering do you do and why?

Permanence and respite care.  I have tried all kinds of fostering and have settled for the moment on respite and permanence.

How many children have you fostered?

About a hundred.

Best memory of fostering?

Lots of laughs!  I could write a book of them all!

Do you have any children of your own?  How do they feel about fostering?

My children are now adults and are in turn foster carers themselves and act as respite carers for each other. (Read about Anne's son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Becky and their lives as foster carers).

Why should someone go into fostering?

If they have a certain empathy with troubled children and feel the need to help them.
