What Is Adoption

Girl on a tyre swing
Adoption is a legal procedure through which parental responsibilities and duties are transferred from the child's birth parents to you.

An Adoption order is granted in court and the adopted child becomes your son or daughter.

Adoption puts the welfare of the child above everything else and in some cases that will mean maintaining links with significant people from their past.

It differs from fostering because adoption provides you, as much as the child, with a sense of permanence and security.  You will have the knowledge that you are there for each other forever, on your journey through life.
