General Support For You

Teenager on bench

There are plenty of resources you can access that provide wide-ranging advice, tips and hints about being a foster carer.  These are more like information tools that may help to answer any niggles or queries you might have.  They also help remind you that you’re not on your own, that other carers have gone through similar experiences to yours and they can be a way of sharing through communication both the good times and the bad.
  • Foster Carers Newsletter

This is published 4 times a year and brings you news about fostering, events and helpful tips and advice to help make your life as a carer a bit easier.

  • Foster Carers Web Pages

A special, secure section of the fostering and adoption website this will provide up-to-date information about events, support groups, downloadable copies of the newsletter.  You’ll also find details of special foster care discount schemes, details of training courses and much more.

  • Foster Carers Handbook

This is an invaluable A-Z guide to fostering.  It covers everything and anything from first aid to policy guidelines.  It’s been written with input from foster carers to ensure it covers all the information you will need.

  • The Fostering Network

As a foster carer with us, you’ll automatically become a member of the Fostering Network.  This is an independent organisation that’s devoted to improving fostering services and provides training, general support and advice to foster carers and fostering organisations.

  • Independent Support

You’ll also have access to an independent company who offer free and confidential advice, information and support.  You’ll have access to their services, which include financial and legal advice; counselling and child and dependant care information.  In total this adds up to a very comprehensive support network that will ensure you enjoy your new life as a foster carer.

You probably won’t ever need to use all of the support we have in place for you as a foster carer but it’s nice to know it’s there if you ever do want it!
