Service Charter for Medico Legal Centre
Bereavement Services will:
- Open the Public Mortuary 24 hours per day/7 days per week for the admission of bodies
- Carry out a Post Mortem examination within 2 working days
- Ensure that work in the mortuary and post-mortem rooms is carried out in accordance with rigorous standards of health, safety and hygiene as laid down in written procedures and HSE guidelines
- Provide to bereaved relatives mementos of the deceased if required e.g. photographs or locks of hair
- Discharge all bodies in a safe, clean and presentable condition
- Provide a reception service between the hours of 8.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday
- Make appointments for the viewing of the deceased during any afternoon Monday to Friday
- Provide a separate waiting room for distressed bereaved families.
- Ensure that all inquests are conducted in accordance with the Coroner's Service Charter
- Ensure that trained Court Ushers are available to provide support, guidance and clarification to witnesses attending inquests.
