Peak Hour Loading and Waiting Restrictions

Loading and waiting restrictions sign

What are peak hour loading and waiting restrictions?

Peak Hour loading and waiting restrictions prohibit vehicles from parking, waiting or stopping (except to set down or pick up passengers) during certain times.

New signing of the peak hour loading and waiting restrictions is being used to replace ‘Urban Clearways’.

In Sheffield, we are changing the times that existing peak hour loading and waiting restrictions operate.
  • Old times - 8.00am to 9.30am and 4.30pm to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday
  • New times - 7.30am to 9.30am and 4.00pm to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday

When the new restriction signs are in place, the Urban Clearway signs will be removed.

Many existing ‘urban clearway’ routes have bus lanes associated with them as well as loading and waiting restrictions. We will therefore also be changing the bus lane operating times to be the same as the new peak hour loading and waiting restrictions.

Parking Attendants will issue Penalty Charge Notices to vehicles contravening the restrictions. But we don’t actually want to give you a ticket.  Our message is simple – don’t park where you know you shouldn’t, check the times of restrictions shown on signs.

Where are the changes happening?

The updated restrictions have already been signed on Abbeydale Road, Burngreave Road / Barnsley Road and Ecclesall Road (St Mary’s Gate to Hunters Bar).

We are currently planning changes to signs on Ecclesall Road (Hunters Bar to Knowle Lane), Glossop Road, Fulwood Road, Western Bank, Whitham Road and Manchester Road before April 2008.

See the report to the City Centre, South and East Planning & Highways Area Board on the proposed urban clearway operating times from June 2006.
