Driving me Crazy

Penistone Road

The people of Sheffield have been voting for the traffic hotspot that really drives them crazy. Voting has now closed and the winning scheme at Bradfield Road will be implemented in the Autumn.

About the winner

A road safety scheme at Bradfield Road received over 350 votes from the public as the place that drives them crazy the most on Sheffield’s roads.

The entrance to Bradfield Road had been reduced from two lanes to one lane from the roundabout. This was causing significant tailbacks and cars to queue for long periods of time.

Work will now start to reinstate two lanes for traffic to use at the roundabout from Owlerton Green. The additional lane should reduce the queues motorists are experiencing.

About the vote

The Council received 617 nominations for traffic hotspots across the City from members of the public.

The nominations were shortlisted to 20 potential schemes that could be delivered. Suggestions were assessed for safety, cost, speed of delivery and the impact on congestion. Many of the other suggestions are already due to be implemented as part of the Council's annual programme.

The public voted for which of the 20 they wanted to see implemented with the £95,000 made available. Over 1300 people voted and Bradfield Road was the winning scheme with 26% of the vote.

We won't stop at Bradfield Road.  We will implement as many of the schemes as we can afford to (starting with the most popular changes) working down the list until the £95,000 is spent.
