Cash Back for Fined Motorists
Motorists who have incurred Penalty Charges for passing through Hillsborough Bus and Tram Gates, and who feel they were treated unfairly because of poor signage, can now apply for a refund.
Refunds will relate to the Middlewood Road and Langsett Road end of the Tram/bus gate. This does not apply to Penalty Charges received for going in the Holme Lane Bus Lane.

Background Information
The decision to invite motorists who felt they were treated unfairly to claim back their money follows a recent decision by an adjudicator, which said that the signs relating to the gates may not be as clear as they could be.
Councillor Paul Scriven, Leader of Sheffield City Council said: “I have been listening to motorists from across the city and have heard their concerns. If drivers feel their fine was unfair then they can contact Parking Services and we will refund their fine.
“I want common sense to prevail here. An independent adjudicator has reviewed 7 appeals and felt that the signs may not be as clear as they could be. The adjudicator did not say that the Council should refund all fines, but I want to give motorists the chance to get their money back."
In consultation with the Department for Transport, who approved the original signs, we're now working to improve the signage at Hillsborough. Amendments will be made in the next few weeks, paying particular attention to markings on the road, which was the issue raised by the adjudicator.
